Bur Dubai Infrastructure Upgrades Ease Daily Travel for Local Residents
Completed projects like the Al Shindagha Corridor and planned metro and road expansions are improving connectivity across key Bur Dubai routes.
How we reported this
The Al Shindagha Corridor Development Project in Bur Dubai has now opened fully, delivering a new 1,425-metre bridge over Dubai Creek that links the Infinity Bridge directly to Port Rashid with four lanes in each direction.
These changes arrive as Dubai works on 72 major road, bridge and tunnel projects due for completion by 2027 across 226 km of roads and 11 key corridors. Residents in Bur Dubai stand to gain shorter journeys when crossing the creek or heading toward Port Rashid, reducing the time spent in traffic on routes that serve daily commutes and local business travel.
Metro and Road Links Set to Expand Access
The Dubai Metro Blue Line, valued at AED 20.5 billion, began main tunnelling in May 2026 and will add 30 km of track plus 14 new stations by 2029. The line will connect Ras Al Khor to Dubai International Airport, giving Bur Dubai residents a new rail option for trips toward the airport and eastern parts of the city.
Further out, a 15 km elevated carriageway running parallel to Sheikh Zayed Road at First Al Khail Street received approval, with work scheduled to start in Q3 2027 and finish by 2030. This addition targets congestion on one of the main arteries used by drivers leaving central Bur Dubai.
Airport Growth Supports Longer-Term Community Benefits
The Dubai World Central expansion at Al Maktoum International Airport continues, with the aim of reaching capacity for 260 million passengers per year by 2032. While the immediate focus remains on roads and the metro, the airport project is expected to support future employment and service access for communities in Bur Dubai once the new facilities come online.
Local residents can monitor updates through the Roads and Transport Authority channels for any temporary lane changes during ongoing works. These projects together point to steadier travel conditions on routes residents use most often.
