Al Shindagha Corridor Opens: Travel Times Drop on Bur Dubai Routes

The Roads and Transport Authority completed all phases of the Al Shindagha Corridor Development Project on the Bur Dubai side this month, opening uninterrupted traffic flow from Al Garhoud Bridge to Port Rashid via the Infinity Bridge and Waterfront Market.
Drivers now move through the corridor without the previous bottlenecks that once stretched journeys across the area. The change matters now because Bur Dubai remains a core residential and commercial hub where daily commutes and goods movement depend on these fixed routes. Completion removes the last construction constraints that had limited capacity on one of the district’s primary east-west links.
Island access bridge under way
Work continues on the separate 1,425-metre bridge that will connect entry and exit points for Dubai Islands from the Bur Dubai side. The AED 786 million structure will carry four lanes in each direction once open. This project sits alongside the corridor work and directly serves the growing island districts that draw residents and traffic from Bur Dubai.
Further east, the Dubai Metro Blue Line project reached its main tunnelling phase in May 2026. The AED 20.5 billion, 30-kilometre line will add 14 stations and serve roughly one million residents when finished by the end of 2029. Tunnelling progress this spring keeps the schedule on track for that 2029 target.
Capacity gains recorded
Records from the completed corridor show travel time on the affected stretch fell from 80 minutes to 12 minutes, with hourly capacity rising to 24,000 vehicles. These figures come from RTA measurements taken after the final phase opened. The same data set notes the new bridge contract will add another 16,000 vehicles per hour once complete.
Residents can check the RTA website or app for current lane closures and diversion routes around the bridge construction site near the Bur Dubai waterfront. Updates on Blue Line tunnelling progress are also posted through official municipality channels.
