Bur Dubai Council Approves Bridge Construction, Pier Restoration, Planning Changes

The RTA and Nakheel have awarded a Dhs 786 million contract to Dubai Holding for a 1,425-meter bridge between Bur Dubai and Dubai Islands. Dubai Municipality will start the second phase of its Dh112 million project to restore a 2.3 km stretch of historic Dubai Creek pier walls on the Bur Dubai side. These steps follow the completion of the Al Shindagha Corridor Development Project on the Bur Dubai side.

Bridge Project Next Steps

The new bridge contract targets improved corridor connectivity. Construction planning will now move forward under the awarded agreement between RTA, Nakheel and Dubai Holding. Residents can expect work to focus on linking the two areas directly once site preparation begins.

Heritage District Planning

Historical districts including Bur Dubai, Shindagha, Deira and Al Fahidi face a three-year facelift led by DTCM and Dubai Municipality. The work aims to create a culture and heritage centre. The Executive Council has also approved a new urban planning model for residential areas that prioritises family welfare alongside a Digital Resilience Policy under the 2026 Agenda supporting Dubai Plan 2033.

Restoration Phase Details

The second phase of the Dh112 million pier wall project will address flooding risks along the 2.3 km Bur Dubai stretch of Dubai Creek. This follows the full completion of the Al Shindagha Corridor project, which cut travel time from 80 minutes to 12 minutes and raised capacity to 24,000 vehicles per hour.

Authorities will next sequence the bridge build, pier restoration and district facelift timelines.
