How Bur Dubai Reached Its Current Infrastructure Milestones

Origins in Corridor Completion
The RTA has completed all phases of the Al Shindagha Corridor Development Project in Bur Dubai, ensuring uninterrupted traffic flow from Al Garhoud Bridge to Port Rashid via the Infinity Bridge and Waterfront Market. This built directly on earlier phases that addressed congestion along the route connecting key waterfront points.
Bridge Contract and Metro Progress
Bur Dubai also saw the RTA award a Dhs 786 million contract to Dubai Holding to construct a 1,425-meter bridge linking Dubai Islands and Bur Dubai as part of the Al Shindagha Corridor Development Project. The Dubai Metro Blue Line, a AED 20.5 billion project spanning 30 km with 14 stations, began main tunnelling in May 2026.
Broader Project Pipeline
Dubai is executing 72 major infrastructure projects across 226 km of roads, 115 bridges and 11 key corridors aimed at easing congestion by the end of 2027. The AED 30 billion Tasreef project, approved in June 2024, is enhancing the emirate's rainwater drainage capacity by 700 percent, including Bur Dubai. The AED 16 billion Main Roads Development Plan covers 22 road network projects.
These steps follow Sheikh Hamdan's Resolution No. 67 of 2025, which launched Dubai's Workforce Productivity Measurement System alongside approvals for affordable homes, independent legal consultancies and enhanced Arabic education. Dubai Municipality awarded contracts to build five new community neighbourhood councils in Nad Al Sheba II, Al Awir II, Al Barsha South I, Al Warqa II and Hatta, with completion expected between Q4 2025 and Q2 2026.
The Executive Council approved the First Al Khail Street Development Plan, which will add a 15-kilometer elevated corridor to cut peak-hour travel time on Sheikh Zayed Road by 51 percent, with construction starting in Q3 2027. Implementation of the approved plans and ongoing projects will continue through the established timelines.
