Dubai Municipality and RTA Launch Infrastructure Upgrades Across Bur Dubai Districts
Dubai Municipality and RTA coordinate projects to address flooding, traffic and heritage preservation across local districts.
How we reported this
Dubai Municipality and the Roads and Transport Authority are carrying out a Dh112 million project to restore 2.3 km of Dubai Creek retaining walls on the Bur Dubai side. The work targets flood prevention and repair of damaged sections through direct local authority action.
Retaining Wall Restoration
The retaining wall effort focuses on the Bur Dubai side of Dubai Creek. Dubai Municipality and RTA are executing the project to upgrade infrastructure that protects the area from flooding. This decision by the two authorities addresses immediate maintenance needs along the waterway.
Al Shindagha Corridor Completion
The RTA has finished all phases of the Al Shindagha Corridor Development Project on the Bur Dubai side. Travel time on the corridor has been reduced from 80 minutes to 12 minutes while capacity has reached 24,000 vehicles per hour. The completed work forms part of ongoing local service improvements managed by the RTA.
Bridge Construction to Dubai Islands
A new Dh786 million bridge linking Bur Dubai to the Dubai Islands is under construction. Dubai Holding received the contract as part of the wider Al Shindagha Corridor expansion. The project reflects coordinated decisions between transport authorities and development entities operating in the area.
Heritage District Facelift
Historical districts including Bur Dubai, Shindagha, Deira and Al Fahidi have been approved for a three-year facelift. DTCM and Dubai Municipality lead the effort to position the districts as a culture and heritage centre. The plan forms part of the municipality’s broader urban strategy for sustainability and digital transformation, which also includes an AED 30 billion rainwater system.
These projects show how Bur Dubai is addressing infrastructure and heritage matters through decisions taken by Dubai Municipality, the RTA and partner entities. Work on the retaining walls, corridor, bridge and district facelift continues under the current local authority programmes.
