How Bur Dubai Reached Its Current Traffic Setup Through Corridor Projects

The Roads and Transport Authority completed all phases of the Al Shindagha Corridor Development Project on the Bur Dubai side, cutting travel time from 80 minutes to 12 minutes and raising capacity from 6,400 to 24,000 vehicles per hour.

Origins of the Corridor Work

Bur Dubai traffic has long followed predictable patterns, with peaks between 7am and 9am and again between 5pm and 7pm on weekdays, plus added pressure on Friday afternoons near shopping areas. The corridor project addressed flow along the route from Al Garhoud Bridge to Port Rashid, passing the Infinity Bridge and Waterfront Market. This built directly on earlier planning for the same alignment.

Supporting Connections and Drainage

Dubai Municipality and the RTA began work on a Dh786 million, 1,425-metre bridge with four lanes in each direction to link Bur Dubai entry and exit points with the Dubai Islands. At the same time, the AED 30 billion Tasreef project, approved in June 2024, targets a 700 percent increase in rainwater drainage capacity across the emirate, including Bur Dubai. These steps sit within a wider programme of 72 major infrastructure projects covering roads, bridges and tunnels due for completion by the end of 2027.

Metro and Creek Projects

The Dubai Metro Red Line already serves Bur Dubai directly, with trains every 2 to 3 minutes in peak hours. The newer AED 20.5 billion Blue Line, a 30 km route with 14 stations, started main tunnelling in May 2026 and will connect areas including Dubai Creek Harbour. Traditional abras continue to cross Dubai Creek between Bur Dubai and Deira for Dhs1 to Dhs2 in under 10 minutes, while all public transport requires a Nol card with fares from AED 3 to AED 8.50.
