Officials Outline Transport, Heritage Restoration Plans for Bur Dubai
Approvals by senior figures outline specific transport and restoration measures for the area.
How we reported this

The Roads and Transport Authority has completed all phases of the Al Shindagha Corridor Development Project on the Bur Dubai side. This follows direct approvals issued by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum and Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed for related works.
Transport and connectivity measures
Officials have confirmed completion of the corridor project, which links directly to a new bridge under construction by Dubai Municipality and the RTA. The bridge spans 1,425 meters and carries a Dh786 million budget to connect Bur Dubai with the Dubai Islands. These steps address movement across the area while the corridor project itself forms part of the same initiative.
Heritage wall restoration and district plans
Dubai Municipality is carrying out a Dh112 million project to restore 2.3 km of historic Dubai Creek retaining walls on the Bur Dubai side. Separate plans, also approved at the highest level, cover historical districts including Bur Dubai, Shindagha, Deira and Al Fahidi. These districts are scheduled for facelift and restoration work spread over three years.
Organisational changes at Dubai Municipality
Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed has approved a new organisational structure for Dubai Municipality consisting of two main sectors and four new entities. The changes are intended to reduce operating costs by 10 percent while generating Dh10 billion in economic opportunities.
The completed corridor project reports a reduction in travel time from 80 minutes to 12 minutes and an increase in traffic capacity from 6,400 to 24,000 vehicles per hour on the Bur Dubai side. These figures come from project documentation released by the RTA.
Further phases of the approved works are now under way through the responsible authorities. Residents and businesses in Bur Dubai can monitor updates through official channels of Dubai Municipality and the RTA for any scheduled access changes during ongoing construction.
