Bur Dubai Secures New Planning Approvals Following Infrastructure Completions
A sequence of infrastructure completions and policy decisions has led to the latest urban planning measures for the district.

The Dubai Executive Council approved new urban planning policies and strategic models in December 2025 to enhance housing, digitalization, and citizen welfare in Bur Dubai as part of the 2026 Agenda.
Sequence of Prior Projects
Earlier infrastructure work set the stage for these approvals. The RTA completed all phases of the Al Shindagha Corridor Development Project in Bur Dubai. That project reduced travel time from 80 minutes to 12 minutes and increased traffic capacity from 6,400 to 24,000 vehicles per hour. A Dhs 786 million contract was awarded to Dubai Holding in 2026 to construct a 1,425-meter bridge linking Bur Dubai and Dubai Islands as part of the same corridor effort.
Restoration and Revamp Framework
His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum approved a three-year plan to restore and revamp Bur Dubai, Al Shindagha, Deira, and Al Fahidi districts to create a leading culture and heritage center. Dubai Municipality is implementing a Dh112 million project to restore 2.3 km of historic creek pier walls on the Bur Dubai side in two phases, with the second phase covering the Bur Dubai stretch. These measures build directly on the corridor completion and the bridge contract.
Policy Context
The December 2025 approvals address housing, digitalization, and citizen welfare after the corridor project finished and the bridge contract was signed. The three-year restoration plan provides the broader direction for work across the named districts. Dubai Municipality's pier wall project operates within that direction on the specific Bur Dubai stretch.
Further phases of the approved policies are expected to follow the established timelines for the restoration plan and the ongoing municipality project.
