Officials Detail Infrastructure Steps to Address Bur Dubai Traffic

Project Timelines and Scope
RTA statements place this corridor among 72 major infrastructure projects covering 226 km of roads, 115 bridges and tunnels plus 11 corridors, all targeted for completion by the end of 2027 to reduce congestion across Bur Dubai and the wider emirate.
Traffic peaks in Bur Dubai between 7am and 9am plus 5pm and 7pm on weekdays, with additional pressure on Friday afternoons near shopping areas, according to transport records. The completed corridor forms one response to these patterns.
Metro and Drainage Investments
Statements from project leads note the Dubai Metro Blue Line, a AED 20.5 billion scheme spanning 30 km with 14 stations, entered main tunnelling after its May 2026 inauguration and aims for completion by the end of 2029. The line will serve areas including Dubai Creek Harbour.
The Tasreef project, approved in June 2024 at AED 30 billion, is described by officials as increasing rainwater drainage capacity by 700 percent in Bur Dubai and surrounding districts.
A separate 1,425-metre bridge linking Bur Dubai to Dubai Islands at a cost of AED 786 million forms part of the same corridor announcements.
Public Transport Options
Records show the Dubai Metro Red Line already serves Bur Dubai with trains every 2 to 3 minutes in peak periods. Abras across Dubai Creek between Bur Dubai and Deira operate for Dhs1 to Dhs2 and take less than 10 minutes, while all services require a Nol card with fares from AED 3 to AED 8.50.
