How Daily Movement Through Business Bay Prompted Recent Road Changes

The Roads and Transport Authority recently completed three traffic improvements in Business Bay after approximately 160,000 people moved through the area each day. These changes responded directly to pressure on existing roadways serving the district.
Why upgrades were required
High volumes of daily movement created overlap on routes linked to Sheikh Zayed Road and Al Khail Road. The authority responded by converting a parallel street to Sheikh Zayed Road from a two-lane two-way road into a one-way dual roadway. This step doubled capacity by 100 percent on that section. An additional lane was added to the service road near Executive Towers. The bridge entry on Al Mustaqbal Street was widened from one lane to two lanes, doubling capacity toward First Al Khail Street. These adjustments addressed the same daily flow that also led to separate interchange work on Al Khail Road and Sheikh Zayed Road.
Supporting transit services already in place
Business Bay Metro Station on the Red Line provides regular service with trains every 3 to 5 minutes during peak hours from 7:30 to 9:30 AM and 5:00 to 7:00 PM, and every 6 to 8 minutes outside those periods. RTA also runs water taxis along the Dubai Water Canal at Dh2 per ride. The abras connect Marasi and Business Bay stations with hours from 8 AM to 10 PM Monday through Saturday and 10 AM to 10 PM on Sunday.
Further planned relief
A new bridge linking to Al Wasl Road forms part of the ongoing response to the same volumes. The project is expected to cut travel times by up to 30 percent once complete. Residents and commuters can already use the expanded road lanes, the metro frequencies, and the low-cost water taxi service while the bridge work continues.
Practical steps for local travel
Check the RTA site for current lane configurations near Executive Towers and Al Mustaqbal Street. The Business Bay Metro Station remains the direct rail option on the Red Line. Water taxi fares stay fixed at Dh2, with departures available from the listed stations during the published hours. These choices together cover the routes affected by the recent capacity changes.
