Business Bay Completes Road Upgrades, Plans Metro Extensions Ahead

The Roads and Transport Authority has finished three traffic improvements in Business Bay, including conversion of a two-lane road into a one-way dual roadway and addition of a 100-meter storage lane that raises right-turn capacity by 50 percent. At the same time the authority resumed affordable water taxi abra services across the district at Dh2 per ride.

Why the timing matters

Business Bay faces heavy peak-hour congestion between 7:30 and 9:30 AM and 5:30 and 7:30 PM because of its density and the limited exit points that feed Sheikh Zayed Road and Al Khail Road. The recent road works and abra restart give residents and workers short-term alternatives while longer-term projects are still under consideration.

Current transport options in use

The Business Bay Metro Station remains one of the busiest stops on the Dubai Metro Red Line, with trains running every 3 to 5 minutes in peak hours and every 6 to 8 minutes off peak. The abra service now operates from 8am to 10pm Monday through Saturday and from 10am to 10pm on Sunday, allowing users to bypass road queues on the water.

Evidence from recent changes

The 100-meter storage lane and one-way dual roadway conversion are already in place, according to RTA records. Forty percent of intersections in the area already adjust flow in real time under the existing intelligent traffic systems. These figures come directly from authority updates on the completed works.
