RTA Unveils Traffic Changes for Bur Dubai Through 2027

The Roads and Transport Authority is reviewing traffic improvement plans for Bur Dubai that include junction expansions and dedicated bus and taxi lanes. These form part of major road projects scheduled to continue through 2027. The review targets local road networks used by residents for daily travel.

High public transport use in Dubai provides context for the timing. In the first half of 2025 the city recorded 395.3 million public transport rides, a 9 percent increase from the prior period. BurJuman metro station in Bur Dubai was previously the city's busiest station with 6.2 million passengers.

Road and bus station work affecting daily commutes

RTA is executing a three-year redevelopment project covering 22 bus stations. The project includes renovations and aesthetic upgrades at several stations in Bur Dubai and Deira. Residents who rely on bus services can expect work at local stations to alter access and waiting areas during the project period.

Junction expansions and dedicated lanes are intended to address traffic flow on routes through Bur Dubai. These changes will affect drivers, bus users and taxi passengers on streets serving residential and commercial areas in the district.

Metro Blue Line and longer-term strategies

The upcoming Dubai Metro Blue Line, an 18 billion AED project spanning 30 km, is designed to provide underground connectivity to Bur Dubai. It will link the area with Downtown, Business Bay and Expo City Dubai. The line forms part of plans to expand the metro network.

Dubai's Green Mobility Strategy 2030 and Autonomous Transportation Strategy set targets to make public transport carbon-free by 2050 and reach 25 percent autonomous mode by 2030. These strategies will shape future options for travel within Bur Dubai and connections to other districts. The government says the policies will deliver the described outcomes over the stated periods.
