Deira International School Secures Third Place in Dubai Schools Games

Deira International School finished third in the Secondary Team Sports category of the 2025-26 MIDEA Dubai Schools Games, a competition that drew 195 schools and 14,654 student-athletes across 27 sports.

The result highlights the growing strength of youth sports in Deira at a time when local schools continue to expand representative teams despite limited indoor options in the neighbourhood. Residents often face waits of more than an hour for indoor arena access during summer heat, making school-based programs and nearby facilities essential for consistent training.

School Programs Driving Participation

Deira International School fields competitive teams in more than 10 sports including football, rugby, basketball, netball, cricket, swimming and athletics, with more than 450 students taking part each year. The school maintains A, B and C teams in multiple disciplines to give athletes of varying skill levels regular match opportunities. Its facilities include two temperature-controlled swimming pools, three astroturf football pitches with one FIFA-approved surface, two air-conditioned sports halls and natural grass rugby and football pitches, backed by a 15 million AED investment. Deira Private School similarly requires students to join at least one sport and fields teams in gymnastics, football, athletics, netball, basketball and cricket against other Dubai schools.

Local Venues Supporting Training

Community access is available through Infinite Sports at Deira International School in Dubai Festival City, which offers badminton and basketball sessions from 6 PM to 11 PM on weekdays and from 2 PM to 11 PM on weekends. Dubai Sports Corporation manages playing fields and grounds in Deira, Al Mamzar and Al Nahda for lease, while Dubai Municipality has added multi-purpose sports fields in Hor Al Anz, Al Satwa and Al Mankhool Park. The planned Sport Society development next to Deira City Centre will add a full-size NHL ice rink, one of the largest bowling centres in the UAE, cricket simulators and climbing walls. City Centre Deira is also running free group walks and runs of 2.5 km, 5 km or 10 km routes through the end of August as part of the Dubai Mallathon.
