Local School Programs Maintain Schedules
Deira International School fields A, B and C teams in athletics and other sports, giving students of varying skill levels regular competitive opportunities through Dubai-based leagues. The school also operates Infinite Sports @Deira International School in Dubai Festival City, with badminton and basketball courts open weekdays from 6 PM to 11 PM and weekends from 2 PM to 11 PM. Deira Private School requires every student to join at least one sport, including athletics, and sends teams to matches against other Dubai schools.
These programs sit against a backdrop of limited indoor facilities in Deira, where residents sometimes wait more than an hour for summer access to air-conditioned arenas. Deira International School finished third in the Secondary Team Sports category at the 2025-26 MIDEA Dubai Schools Games, a competition that drew 195 schools and more than 14,654 student-athletes across 27 sports. The same season introduced a new qualification pathway for athletics, creating a clearer route from school level to emirate finals. Deira International School’s facilities, built with a 15 million AED investment, include three astroturf football pitches, two temperature-controlled pools and two air-conditioned sports halls.
The Royal Palm Invitational college basketball tournament is scheduled to debut in Dubai in November with 32 power-conference teams expected.
