Deira Schools Expand Athletics Programs Through Shared Facilities and Competitions
Deira International School and Deira Private School athletics teams are expanding access and local involvement via shared facilities and competitions.
How we reported this

Deira International School placed third in the Secondary Team Sports category at the 2025-26 MIDEA Dubai Schools Games, a competition that drew 195 schools and 14,654 student-athletes across 27 sports.
The ranking reflects steady growth in high school athletics across Deira, where schools maintain representative teams that compete in Dubai-based leagues and the MIDEA Dubai Schools Games. Athletics sits alongside football, rugby, basketball, netball, cricket and swimming as a core offering at both Deira International School and Deira Private School.
Facilities Support Wider Participation
Deira International School fields A, B and C teams in athletics and other disciplines, opening competitive opportunities to students of varying skill levels. More than 450 students take part in the school’s representative sports programs each year. The campus includes natural grass rugby and football pitches, three astroturf football pitches with one FIFA-approved surface, two temperature-controlled swimming pools and two air-conditioned sports halls, built through a AED 15 million investment.
These same facilities operate under the name Infinite Sports @Deira International School in Dubai Festival City. Weekday access runs from 6 PM to 11 PM and weekend access from 2 PM to 11 PM for badminton and basketball, extending the school’s infrastructure to local residents outside school hours.
Private School Model Encourages Broad Involvement
Deira Private School requires every student to join at least one sport, listing athletics among gymnastics, football, netball, basketball and cricket. Teams from the school compete regularly against other Dubai schools, adding to the local fixture calendar.
The combination of school teams, multi-level squads and after-hours community access keeps athletics visible and accessible in Deira. Residents gain regular use of temperature-controlled and air-conditioned venues during peak summer months, while students benefit from structured pathways that include the new qualification route introduced for athletics in the 2025-26 Dubai Schools Games season.
Schools continue to schedule matches and training sessions that draw families into shared spaces, sustaining the local sports network without reliance on new construction timelines.
