Business Bay Offers 7 Free Summer Activities for Residents and Visitors

Dubai’s Business Bay district, a high-rise corridor stretching along the Dubai Water Canal, has become a magnet for office workers and residents alike. But amid the glass towers and construction cranes, there’s a surprising number of free attractions, from water shows to jogging tracks, that can keep visitors occupied for an entire afternoon or evening without opening their wallets.

Parks, promenades and a mechanical waterfall

Bay Avenue Park, located on Bay Avenue Street, offers 24-hour free access to a jogging track, two outdoor gyms, a skate park and a trampolining area. The park also boasts views of the Burj Khalifa. According to a Business Bay guide published by Hu Dubai, the facility is open around the clock and does not require a membership or entry fee.

A short walk away, the Dubai Water Canal promenade near Business Bay Metro Station is a free attraction featuring illuminated walkways, pedestrian bridges and the canal’s mechanical waterfall. Facebook group Business Bay Community notes that the area also has good Wi-Fi, making it a practical spot for remote workers looking for an outdoor desk.

The canal itself is a 6.4-kilometre man-made waterway that flows between Business Bay and Creek Harbour. Real estate blog Erehomes says the scenic waterfront is free to walk, with boat rides available for those willing to pay. The entire stretch, including the promenade, is pedestrian-friendly and offers views of dhows, abras and the occasional paraglider overhead.

Fountains and sea creatures without a ticket

On the eastern edge of Business Bay, adjacent to The Dubai Mall, the Dubai Fountain puts on free daily shows from 6pm to 11pm every 30 minutes. Gulf News reported in 2020 that the performances are free and draw large crowds, especially on weekend evenings. The water jets shoot up to 150 metres, choreographed to classical, Arabic and pop music.

Just inside The Dubai Mall, visitors can see thousands of sea creatures without paying the aquarium’s entry fee. The Dubai Aquarium & Underwater Zoo’s 10-million-litre tank is visible from the mall’s central atrium, and a walkway outside the entrance offers a close-up view of sharks, rays and other marine life. Frank Porter, a Dubai-based property blog, notes that the display is accessible to anyone who wanders into the mall.

For those looking to extend their free outing, the entire Dubai Water Canal area, including the waterfall and pedestrian bridges, is open around the clock. The canal’s 6.4 kilometres of waterfront paths connect to Business Bay’s existing jogging and cycling networks. Local business groups say the area’s free attractions have become a selling point for companies trying to lure workers back to office towers.

While the district’s skyline continues to fill with new residential and commercial towers, its free public spaces already offer a budget-friendly alternative to Dubai’s pricier leisure options, with no reservation required.
