The number of registered pets in Dubai's Business Bay district has climbed steadily since 2023, and the knock-on effect is visible every morning along the Al Khail Road canal path: dozens of residents jogging, lunging, and stretching, leashes in hand, earbuds out, talking to each other. Dog ownership is quietly reshaping how this neighbourhood approaches fitness, and the parks designed to accommodate it are filling a social gap that no gym membership can replicate.

The timing matters. Across urban centres globally, public health researchers have documented a post-2020 shift toward outdoor, community-based exercise as a complement, sometimes a replacement, to indoor gyms. In dense, high-rise districts like Business Bay, where the average apartment sits above the 20th floor and green space is premium-priced real estate, the few parks that exist carry an outsized social function. Add a dog run, and you have a built-in reason for strangers to stop moving and start talking.

Where the Community Actually Gathers

Horizon Park, located on the eastern edge of Business Bay near the Dubai Water Canal promenade, is the most established of these dual-purpose spaces.
