Business Bay Walking Trails Rated by Distance and Difficulty
Five mapped routes through local parks now carry clear ratings that match different fitness levels and time commitments.
How we reported this
Business Bay residents gained access this month to five officially rated walking trails that span distances from 1.8 kilometres to 7.4 kilometres with difficulty levels marked easy, moderate or advanced.
The ratings arrive as summer temperatures ease and more workers seek outdoor activity before the workday begins or after office hours end along the waterfront. Local health data shows a 22 percent rise in park visits between April and June compared with the same period last year, according to figures released by the Business Bay Municipal Wellness Office.
Two routes stand out for regular users. The flat 2.4-kilometre loop inside Bay Central Park starts at the entrance on Al Abraj Street and circles the central fountain twice before returning to the same gate. The moderate 5.1-kilometre path at Creek Side Gardens begins near the Business Bay Metro exit on Al Khail Road, follows the water for 2 kilometres then climbs a gentle embankment before descending back through shaded seating areas maintained by the Creek Gardens Maintenance Team.
Trail ratings and surface details
Each route carries a posted sign at the starting point that lists total distance, estimated time at average walking speed and surface type. The shortest easy option covers 1.8 kilometres on smooth paving inside the Business Bay Promenade extension off Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Boulevard. The longest advanced route reaches 7.4 kilometres and includes two short stair sections plus an exposed section along the service road behind the Bay Square office towers. A moderate 3.9-kilometre trail at the same gardens uses a mix of gravel and rubberised track installed last October.
The Business Bay Wellness Association recorded 4,812 trail completions logged through its free app between January and June this year. Average completion time for the 5.1-kilometre route sits at 58 minutes. Entry to all listed parks remains free, though the association charges 25 dirhams for a printed map booklet available at the information kiosk on Al Abraj Street.
Practical steps for first-time users
Walkers should begin at the marked start points between 6:30 a.m. and 7:30 a.m. to avoid peak heat and can download the association app for real-time distance tracking. Those new to the longer routes are advised to complete the 2.4-kilometre Bay Central Park loop twice before attempting the 5.1-kilometre Creek Side Gardens path. Local medical clinics along Al Khail Road offer free hydration checks on the first Saturday of each month for anyone using the trails regularly.
