Deira expands cycling routes safe for families and beginners across local parks
New dedicated lanes opened this month give parents and novices protected paths along the creek and through neighborhood gardens.
How we reported this

Deira opened 8 kilometres of new family cycling lanes on 5 July across three parks, with barriers separating riders from vehicle traffic on the busiest stretches.
July brings slightly lower morning temperatures that draw more residents outdoors, and city wellness records show a 35 percent rise in family park visits since the same month last year. Local health campaigns now list cycling as one of the lowest-cost ways for households to meet weekly activity targets without indoor gym fees.
The Deira Creek Path runs from Al Rigga Road to the floating bridge, while the Al Mamzar extension loops through Al Mamzar Beach Park with flat, shaded sections marked for speeds under 15 kilometres per hour. Both routes connect to the Deira Wellness Council’s free Saturday beginner sessions that started in March and already list 2,500 registered families.
Practical routes and costs
Parents can rent child seats and balance bikes at the Al Mamzar entrance kiosk for 30 dirhams an hour or 120 dirhams for a full day. The Creek Path offers two water-refill stations and a repair stand near the 3-kilometre marker. Both sites remain open from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily, with extra lighting added along the Creek stretch last month.
Next steps for families
Residents can download the Deira Parks app to reserve a free orientation slot or check real-time crowd levels before heading out. Those new to the routes are advised to start at the Al Rigga Gardens entry point, where the first kilometre stays entirely car-free and passes two playgrounds for breaks.
