Downtown Dubai Parks Combine Dog Walks With Group Fitness Classes
Downtown Dubai residents combine dog walks with group workouts at parks equipped for both pets and people.
How we reported this

Downtown Dubai recorded 320 group fitness sessions in dog-designated zones during June 2026, up from 210 the previous year.
Pet ownership in the emirate climbed after the Dubai Municipality relaxed off-leash rules in select green spaces on 1 March 2025. Residents now seek early-morning outlets that fit both exercise routines and animal care before daytime heat peaks above 40 degrees Celsius.
Burj Park along Mohammed Bin Rashid Boulevard opened a fenced dog area in late 2024 that includes water stations and agility equipment. Owners meet there for 45-minute circuit classes on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 6:30 a.m. The sessions incorporate resistance bands and body-weight moves while dogs remain on leash within marked lanes.
Additional venues and programs
Further east, the Canal Walk green strip near Dubai Opera hosts Saturday morning pack walks organised by the Downtown Pet Collective. Participants cover 3 kilometres along the water before optional stretch sessions on rubber mats supplied by the group. The same strip added LED lighting last October so sessions can start at 5:45 a.m. during summer months.
Dubai Municipality data released in May 2026 showed a 28 percent rise in annual pet licences issued for Downtown postcodes since 2024. Entry to both Burj Park and Canal Walk remains free, though the Downtown Pet Collective charges AED 60 per person for its led sessions to cover insurance and mats.
Practical steps for new users
Residents can register for the next round of classes through the municipality app, which lists start times and any temporary closures for maintenance. First-time visitors are advised to bring waste bags, a reusable water bowl and arrive 10 minutes early to sign the simple waiver at the park entrance kiosk. Schedules update weekly and appear under the wellness tab by 8 p.m. each Sunday.
